Collaborative and Spontaneous

 

The goal was to communicate the richness of a Detroit-based jazz festival to a broad multinational audience, while also utilizing space and architecture as messaging surfaces. Since jazz has a way of being collaborative and spontaneous, our team wanted to communicate that energy through unique imaging and branding choices. Our team created a way-finding system to help attendees get around the festival, utilizing color to communicate the different attributes of music via sound to form.

The exploration of cut forms was informed by the nature of instruments and players. Each player has a different characteristic, so we wanted each element to feel spontaneous.
